What is an APK File?
An APK file (Android Package Kit) is the file format used by the Android operating system for the distribution and installation of mobile apps. It’s similar to the way other operating systems handle software installation—like .exe files on Windows or .dmg files on macOS.
When you download an APK file, you are essentially obtaining the installation package for an Android app. Most users typically download apps directly from the Google Play Store, where the APK file is handled behind the scenes without the user needing to interact with it directly.
However, if you download an app from a source outside the Play Store, such as the official Protectstar online shop, you may receive the APK file directly. For example, when you purchase one of our Android apps, you'll receive an email containing your activation code along with a download link to the APK file. This allows you to manually install the app on your Android device.
Downloading and installing APK files from trusted sources, like our official website, is perfectly safe and offers flexibility, such as accessing apps that might not be available on the Play Store.
